[ If you try to run the installer on Windows 8+ and you get a message about "Windows Protected Your PC", you can reference the folllowing article: http://www.howtogeek.com/123938/htg-exp ... windows-8/. Select "More Info", then "Run Anyway". ]
[ If you are upgrading from a version older than 1.20, see: http://ballroomdj.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5. ]
Step 1: Determine if you have 32-bit or 64-bit windows
Open windows explorer on your computer and navigate to the C:\ folder. Check and see if you have a 'Program Files (x86)' folder. If you do, you have a 64-bit windows system. In the example below, there is no 'Program Files (x86)' folder, so it is a 32-bit windows system.
Another way to check is listed in the Microsoft FAQs:
Microsoft FAQ: 32-bit/64-bit
Step 2: Install ActiveState TCL/TK
Step 2 is only needed for older versions of BallroomDJ.
If you are installing version 3.3.7 or later and are on a 32-bit machine, skip to step 3.
If you are installing version 3.0.8 or later and are on a 64-bit machine, skip to step 3.
Go to: ActiveState TCL/TK Downloads
Select the 'Windows Installer (EXE)' 8.6.x version corresponding to your windows 32/64 bit version. If you have 32-bit windows, use the '(x86)' version. If you have 64-bit windows, use the '(64-bit, x64)' version.
Run the installer. For the ActiveState TCL installation, select the 'Next >' button in each window and accept all of the defaults. On the second window (shown below), accept the license agreement.
Step 3: Install ActiveState Python
Go to: ActiveState Python Downloads
Select the 'Windows Installer (MSI)' 3.4.x.x version corresponding to your windows 32/64 bit version.
Run the installer. For the ActiveState Python installation, select the 'Next' button in each window and accept all of the defaults. In the second window (shown below), accept the license agreement.
Step 4: Install the VLC Media Player
Go to: VLC Media Player Download
Select 'Installer Package'.
VLC Version 2.1.0 through version 2.1.5 do not expose the song speed controls on Windows. If you want song speed controls, you must install version 2.0.8 or 2.2.0 or later. Starting with version 1.33 of BallroomDJ, version 2.2.0 of VLC may be used.
For the VLC installation, the default options will need to be changed.
Run the installer. Select 'Next >' until you see the 'Choose Components' window (third window):
Scroll down until you see the 'File type associations' :
Select the 'File type associations' checkbox twice in order to turn off all file type associations.
Now select 'Next >' and then 'Install'.
Step 5: Install SoX
Go to: SoX - Sound eXchange files
Download the latest version.
Sox is used for the 'Export for CD' function in BallroomDJ. This is an optional component. If it is installed later, BallroomDJ must be reinstalled in order to set up other files so that MP3 files can be created.
Run the installer. On the 'Installation Options' screen, turn off the start menu shortcuts and desktop icons selections.
Select 'Next >' and then 'Install'.
Step 6: Install the BallroomDJ software
Go to: ballroomdj.org
Download the BallroomDJ package labelled 'windows installer'.
Run the BallroomDJ windows installer. The installer will create a new folder on your desktop named 'BallroomDJ'.
If you have already installed BallroomDJ, re-install it. Installation of BallroomDJ requires that Python is already installed,
otherwise the Mutagen package will not be installed. The SoX program should also be installed before BallroomDJ.
Step 7: Start the BallroomDJ program.
Open the 'BallroomDJ' folder, double click on 'ballroomdj.tcl', select 'Help' and read the 'Getting Started' section.
