Special Character Handling

(Updated 2017-10; BallroomDJ version 3.15.5)

Special characters are handled in the exact manner that the mp3tag handles them with one addition.

When BallroomDJ creates a filename, the following characters are removed: | < > " * : / ?

On Windows, a trailing dot is not allowed for a folder name, and any trailing dots in a folder name are removed.

These rules are applied to all platforms, Windows, Linux and Mac OS X so that the filenames across platforms are consistent.

The < and > characters are removed from song tags when the song data is saved, as these characters will cause the tagging action to crash (due to technical reasons).
