Known Issues with BallroomDJ

(Updated 2017-10; BallroomDJ version 3.15.5)

All Platforms

  • VLC: When a song is played at a slower speed than normal, the seek in song does not work well at all. For this reason, BallroomDJ disables seek in song when the song speed is slowed down.

  • VLC and speed control: VLC versions 2.1.0 through version 2.1.5 do not expose the song speed controls on Windows. Use VLC version 2.2.0 and later.

Windows XP

  • The progress bar color cannot be changed.
  • Windows XP cannot do updates.

Mac OS X

  • VLC versions 2.2.0 through 2.2.1 do not work correctly. Use version 2.1.5 or version or later (2017-7).
  • Disabled menu selections are not greyed out properly.
  • Audio output selection is not tested well (2017-7)

  • Some Linux distributions are defaulting pulseaudio's flat-volumes configuration to yes. This causes problems initializing VLC's initial volume, as later pulseaudio will change the master volume. It is recommended that the flat-volumes configuration be set to no.
  • When first starting up the player, the volume will glitch at the beginning of the very first song. This is caused when BallroomDJ initializes VLC's internal volume control, and VLC/pulseaudio then changes the master volume. This occurs whether or not flat-volumes is on or off.
  • Fedora Linux has multiple problems. There are some changes made to work around Fedora issues.
