Useful Utilities

These are some useful utilities for working with your music collection

MusicBrainz Picard (windows, mac, linux)

MusicBrainz is an open music data collection. It is organized much better than the former freedb. The MusicBrainz Picard tool allows you find the matching song from the MusicBrainz database based on tags or audio fingerprint. The updated tags can then be written to your audio file.

Starting with version 3.15.6, BallroomDJ now has an interface to MusicBrainz and AcoustID to look up the audio file

mp3tag (windows)

Though named mp3tag, mp3tag handles many more audio file formats than just mp3s. This is a very powerful program that can be used to manage the audio file tags, rename the audio files based on the tags, bulk tag updates and more. Very useful for organizing your audio collection.

Audacity (windows, mac, linux)

Audacity is a great open source tool for recording and editing sounds. Normalize the volume, cut the songs, add fades and other effects. Great for putting together a medley for a showcase.

Recommended by BallroomDJ users:

AutoHotkey (windows)

Autohotkey allows you to remap keys to run programs, send commands to other programs, etc. An excellent automation / shortcut tool.
