Anti-Virus False Positives

Post by bll »

I submitted the launcher program to Symantec, McAfee and BitDefender as a false positive.
We'll see if they actually do anything.

Again, there is no malware in BallroomDJ!

The anti-virus companies mark the NSIS installer as malware, and they mark my little launcher program as malware.
If an actual virus happens to use the NSIS installer, many other programs that use the NSIS installer get marked as malware.
This is just incompetence on the anti-virus companies' part. They are marking the installer and not the virus payload.

They are making my life as an independent software vendor very difficult.

It appears that bitdefender has removed BallroomDJ.exe from their false positive list.
McAfee is non-responsive so far. I will submit to them again.
Also submitted a false positive report to malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes sucks. They do not accept false positives from the public.

McAfee has been non-responsive.

I don't recommend any anti-virus product, but definitely do not use Malwarebytes or McAfee.
Windows Defender, bitdefender and Norton/Symantec have publicly available methods to submit false positive reports.

McAfee claims to have removed the BallroomDJ launcher from their list.
McAfee is still showing up on virustotal though.
