Tips on Using BallroomDJ 4 : Setting up the User Interface to Your Liking

Post by bll »

Setting up the User Interface to Your Liking

The default user interface settings in BallroomDJ 4 use a dark theme, and a fairly large font (as many BDJ4 users are older). This article outlines the changes that can be made.

Start BDJ4, and select Configure / User Interface.

Changing the Theme

On all platforms, the Adwaita, Adwaita:dark, HighContrast, and HighContrastInverse themes are available.

On Windows, the Windows, Windows-10, Windows-10-Acrylic, Windows-10-Acrylic:dark, Windows-10-Dark, and Windows-8.1-Metro themes are available.

On MacOS, the Mojave-dark-solid and Mojave-light-solid themes are available.

Use the + and - buttons on the theme spinbox to change the theme, then exit and restart BDJ4.

The Font Size

There are two font settings in BDJ4. One for the main user interface, and one for listings of songs, i.e. the music queues, song selection, and music manager displays. Select the font button to change the font and/or font size. The picture below is taken from Windows. Select the font to use, and use the spinbox near the bottom right to change the size of the font. Again, BDJ4 must be exited and restarted for the changes to take effect.

For the "listing" font, a smaller size font can be selected so that more information can be seen in the music manager and music queues. Adjust this size to your liking.

Scale

Scale may be used for large 4k monitors. Leave this set at 1 unless you have a large monitor.

The Accent Color

The accent color is used as a highlight for messages and as image colors. e.g. in the management window:

In light themes, you may want to change the accent color to a darker color with more contrast.

The Profile Color

In Configure / General, the profile color can be set. This color appears as a colored box in the upper right of all BDJ4 windows.

If you use multiple profiles, you can set the profile color for each profile to a distinct color to help distinguish the different profiles from each other. If the profile color is changed, BDJ4 must be exited and restarted for the change to take effect.

As of version 4.12.5, the user interface and marquee colors have been added to the configuration and no longer need to be manually configured.

For the user interface, the Accent color, the Error color and the Song Mark color may be configured.

In the marquee, the Background color, the Accent color, the Information color and Upcoming Dance color may be configured.
