The "Windows Media Player" player interface is now fully functional. A particular audio output device may be selected, and will play back properly. As this interface is now working, the installer has been changed for Windows to use the "Windows Media Player" interface as the default, and VLC is no longer automatically installed on Windows. This does not affect existing installations that use VLC for the player interface.
Unfortunately, I also found a nasty bug on Windows that prevented audio tag processing for MP3 files with international characters in the filename. This may have been present since 2024-11, though in this case, I cannot be certain as to when this bug presented itself (a copy of a configuration file was left in the wrong place for one of the support libraries).
Automated tests were run on:
- Linux
- MX Linux 23 [Debian 12] (VLC3 and GStreamer)
- OpenSUSE 15.6 (VLC3 and GStreamer)
- Debian 13 (VLC3 and GStreamer)
- MacOS
- MacOS Sequoia (intel) (VLC3)
- MacOS Tahoe (applesilicon) (VLC3)
- Windows
- Windows 10 (VLC3 and Windows Media Player)
MacOS users, be sure to run the version 23 pre-install script.
Linux users, be sure to run the version 12 pre-install script.
