Setting up the User Interface Using a Light Theme

When BallroomDJ 4 installs, it installs a dark theme by default. This may not be what everyone wants. In this article, a light theme will be chosen and the changes necessary to make it look good in BDJ4 will be made. For this article, BDJ4 on Windows will be used. The necessary steps are the same on Linux and MacOS, only the theme name will be different.

First, start BDJ4, select Configure / User Interface. In the User Interface configuration, select Windows-10-Acrylic as the theme (there are other themes shipped on Windows that are light themes). The Windows-10 light theme has its selected text color incorrectly configured and should not be used.

Close the configuration windows, exit BDJ4, and restart BDJ4. Let's take a look at the management window and see what it looks like now.
Select Manage, and select Music Manager.

Though usable, BDJ4's default accent color does not have enough contrast for light themes. Close the management window, and select Configure. Select User Interface, then select the color button for Accent Color. For this article, select the bottom color in the fourth column. Press the Select button. You can, of course, use any of the pre-defined colors, or choose a custom color for the accent color.

Close the configuration window and open the management window again. Select Music Manager.

This looks better. The accent color has more contrast. Let's take a look at the error color. Leave the management window open, and select the Song Editor tab. In the Song Start entry box, type an x and press the enter key.

The error color does not enough contrast. Close the management window, then open the configuration window and select User Interface.
Select the the Error Color button, and choose the bottom color in the fifth column. Press the Select button. In my opinion, the dark orange accent color that was chosen wasn't the best for a light theme. It is too close to the error color. Select the Accent Color, and choose the purple in the sixth column, second from the bottom.

Now close the configuration window, and open the management window. Select Music Manager. Select the Song Editor tab, and type an x into Song Start and press enter.

The error color now has more contrast. You can choose a different accent color to match your personal taste.
