Smartphone remote control

Post by marimo »

Is there a possibility to develop a smartphone app in the future, that can serve as a remote control for BDJ?
Kind of app that can connect to the PC with Bluetooth or another connection option, and can be set to control some of the features in BDJ, such as volume, tempo, next song, pause, fade out, add request, etc..

This could help instructors, teachers, or even DJ's to have control if they are on walking around on the dancefloor or away from the computer.

This exists (in part).
Go to: Configuration / Options / Web Server

There is more information here:
Mobile Remote Control
and in the built-in help.

Maybe it needs a better name than "Web Server".

I do not have any good ideas on how to implement "Add Request", the problem being that there could be a
very long list of songs to display.

And we need to translate the template file for Dutch.
Forgot about that.

I presume you'll direct me to the template file for translation.

Oooh, didn't see this feature.
It's a nice one, but has a limit. It needs an internet connection, and on some or many occasions there is not internet available.
(this is for our club at the moment)

Nevertheless, i'll try it out sto see if it works correctly.

I just finished automating the template translation.
All the words used were already translated.

Yes, it needs a wireless connection, but should not actually need to be on the internet.
Hook up a wireless router to the computer, and then make sure
the mobile device connects to that router.
At home, just disconnect your router from the internet to test -- same idea.

The bad part is that it is another piece of equipment to hook up and carry around.

Okay.
I'll test it with your suggestions.

Could you build an app? Or is this not on your wishlist?
Just asking!

Not on the wishlist. The web server is much easier, more flexible, easy to expand and change,
works on both Apple iPhone and Android.

A mobile device app would have the same issue, it still needs to connect
over the network to BallroomDJ. And there's the whole iPhone/android problem.

Hi Brad,
Yes, as you said, there are the OS's problems!

Thanks for your info!
